Prayer Requests:

*For Nah Eh Yoh, Baadim Suh, and Phillip Chung to be open to The Word of God.
*For my sister Esther who recently moved to Oklahoma for an internship
*For my fellow brothers and sisters here at ENM who or are reaching out to others...and for those others they are reaching out to! = )
*For my English class to go smoothly (explained below)
*For me to be able to memorize Bible verses verbatim (also explained below)
*For me to be healthy (some lower back pain from sitting on the ground too much and for my stomach to be able to cope with the food here)

*And of course it is always a given to always pray for family and other loved ones!

Those three I mentioned above I am working on bringing to Christ. The first is a Japanese student learning Korean for her job, the second is a Korean-Russian getting ready for College, and the third is a Korean-American taking a year off from Villanova to study abroad. Please pray that I can plant the seed in them and to show them what it means to be a Christian.

I just got back from eating lunch with my fellow brothers after they evanglized on campus, but during lunch we conversed about how things went and so forth...anyway, our director here said he wanted me to start a small group to whom I would teach English. Of course I am going to. I want to be able to reach as many people as possible! Allow me to infrom you about the education process here in Korea...

Besides going to school, most students here also have private tutors or go to special Academies in order to stay at the top of their classes...and I mean 'til the wee hours in the morning. Education is extremely important here...so if you can make it into one of the top Universities, like the Harvard and Yale's of Korea, then you can get a good job...but if you can't...well, yeah. Anyway, since there are a lot of people wanting to go the these colleges and because so many of them are smart, students try and get a leg up on the competition by speaking English well. I think it's over-emphasized...even though it's nice for me since I'm not that great at Korean. English tutors here make anywhere from $20 to $50+ an hour...yeah... parents are willing to dish out the cash for these "extra learning sessions." Obviously this doesn't make it fair to the poorer students in Korea...yeah, I know, this also happens in America, but it definitely is not as big a problem. Anyway, I want to provide this free English learning opportunity for those my fellow brothers and sisters here at ENM are witnessing to while at the same time I want to do some private tutoring so that I can buy lunch for more people that I am witnessing to buy gifts for them etc...But if you would pray that this would work out, I would appreciate it so much!

Still continuing the Bible Studies and QT sharing Times and such...also reading Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis...I learned so much but it would take forever to explain it all! The Key points: Pride is the complete anti-Christ--the Devil tried to reach equality with God...we should not think that things will be rosy if we are righteous--examine Job in the Bible... We all try to reach happiness in our own way (through doing good works, having power, etc) but we will continue to be discontent because Jesus Christ is the only bridge to God...God gave us this freedom in this life to be really good or to be really evil -- it's up to us if we want to believe His Word or not.

Please continue to pray so that we can remain strong in The Word.

Right now I am working on memorizing the first 60 verses according to the Navigator's Topical memory system (ENM is a part of the Navigators and uses a lot of their resources for Bible Studies and such). All of the other brothers here have already memorized it
http://www.navigators.org/us/resources/illustrations/items/Topical%20Memory%20System

and are now working on the next set of 180!!! The reason why they are so determined to memorize verses: "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11

This past week I memorized the first 16 in a so-so manner (only in English), meaning that I only knew 9 completely. I knew them all with getting the first couple of words...but still, 9 out of 16 isn't so good... in fact, that's failing = (.

Yeah, yesterday I was Discipled by an older member of ENM and was I was told that I need to slow down and work on reviewing them instead of always going on to the next verse...so what's going to help me slow down is by also memorizing them in Korean...Please pray that I will have the patience and diligence to do this!

As always, if you have any prayer requests, please email them to me sam86kim@gmail..com or comment them here so that others will also be able to pray for you.

Thank you for all of your support! I really appreciate it!

Before I post anything, here is what I want to accomplish while I'm here:

*To know and reflect Christ in my daily life and to make Him known to others -- to the students at Korea Unversity and my relatives who do not believe: My grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins
*To be disciplined in my daily activities -- Quiet Time, praise, worship, prayer, studying, memorizing Bible verses, exercising, etc, following the Bible verse Colossians 3:23 "Work at it with all of you heart, as working for the Lord, not for men."
*To start an English Praise Team in hopes of bringing a larger audience to Christ -- work on my singing and maybe even learn how to play the guitar or drums
*To always make time for others!
"To keep accountability with my other brothers
*To be completely fluent in Korean

I am reaching out to others because I truly believe in a Heaven and Hell...and I want to give people the opportunity to go to Heaven = ) If you are not a believer, I am not condemning you in anyway, but I urge you to continue to question Christianity. Keep asking questions and see how Christians behave to see whether or not you want to associate yourself with Christianity. I just want to plant the seed of Christ...the ultimate choice is up to you.

Okay, last time I tried to post, including pictures and video, the computer froze and everything erased = ( ... let's try this again = )

I have finally settled in here at my home for the next year! I am absolutely loving the environment here at ENM because I am constantly encouraged by my fellow brothers in Christ to dwell in the Word. Don't get me wrong, it's still not easy, but we are all working hard to discipline our bodies so that we can learn more about God. I pray that I will be able to discipline myself as much as some of the other brothers here so that I may bring others to Christ...and not lead them astray through any selfish or unkind actions.

First off, please comment if there's anything that you would like me to mention in my next update...I apologize for not updating in awhile, but I will update at least once a week from now on = ) Also, please comment on this blog and tell me your prayer requests so that not only I can pray for you, but also my brothers here at ENM and also anybody who reads this blog. If it is personal, please email me, sam86kim@gmail.com . Prayer is so important!

Speaking of prayer, the other morning after our reglar morning routine (Quiet Time at 6, breakfast at 7), we had our QT sharing time on the main campus of Korea University (sum total of undergrad and grad students is 55,000...yeah, huge!). After sharing what we had learned during our QT's, we walked around the campus for an hour. We didn't walk to get some place or to admire the beautiful architecture (some of the buildings on the main campus were posted earlier) or to get fresh air (are you kidding me...I don't think there is any fresh air in the Seoul Metropolitan area...21 million people...3rd largest metropolitan area in the world behind the Greater Tokyo area and Mexico City...talk about smog), but we walked around the campus to pray for everybody that we passed by and for everybody in the buildings that we walked around.

What we did was walk in a line about 20 meters behind one another and walked slowly so that we could pray that the students on campus would be open to hear The Word of God. I got caught up in prayer during 2 instances and walked the wrong way...I look up and noticed that the brother I was following was no longer there! = P I eventually found my way back in the line both times, but it was kind of embarrasing since I was also leading everybody behind me astray...but I wasn't the only one, another brother got completely caught up in prayer and veered off in the wrong direction, and he had to meet up with us at the end of our prayer walk...lol...

Today we also had a prayer walk...we walked around a different part of the campus tody so we could pray for different people in different buildings, We were also sure to remind eachother to not only focus on prayer, but also to be attentive in where we were going = P. btw, nobody got lost this time = P and all went well.

Now I don't know if any of you have done a prayer walk before, but I don't think I have...if I have, I don't remember...Anyway, after our QT sharing time, my missionary team leader started numbering us off...I didn't know what was going on, so I asked why he was numbering us off since we just finished meeting...I thought we were heading back home...he asked me if I knew about Jericho, and I was like, yeah, the walls of Jericho fell down. And he was like, yes, but didn't they walk around the wall and do as God told them to? Yeah, he was right (Joshua 6)...We didn't march around with trumpets and such, but we did silently walk around campus as the people silently walked behind the trumpets.

For those of you who are wondering what my schedule is like here...

This is pretty much going to be my Sunday schedule for the next year (based upon this last Sunday): wake up at 7 and have my Quiet Time (QT), go to church at 9 or 11 (picture of the outside of Anam Presbyterian Church with some of my fellow ENM brothers),

have fellowship/eat lunch at church, go to the ENM service 2-4:15(picture of us singing)

have my Bible Study 4:30-5:30, then have my missionary team meeting (several different groups)

then eat dinner with them...then have my ENM household meeting at 9, then wash up and go to sleep by 11...

Sundays are going to be my day of "Rest," but obviously it is filled up with activities that will spiritually enrich me and help me to stay focused on Christ during the week.

My weekday schedule will be different in the afternoon, but every morning will start with QT at 6 followed by breakfast at 7 (each brother takes turn cooking...and everybody cleans up afterwards), then either a QT sharing time at 8, or time for me to get prepared for Korean class at 9. That goes until 1 when I will have lunch, either with other people in my class or with my ENM members. I'm hoping I will be able to reach out to many of the other people in my Korean class. I really want to be a good example of a Christian for them and befriend them and take them out to lunch and stuff...I just pray that they will be open to my hospitality. Then we after dinner together at 6...everything inbetween changes day to day.

I am so happy that I am part of such an Awesome program and doing well, but I need to not let down my spiritual guard just because I am surrouned by so many believers: "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." 1 Corinthians 10:12-13

I pray for strength to continue growing in Christ. Remember, Even though I am surrounded by other believers, there are still many temptations...the devil is pretty good at attacking our weaknesses...but remeber, we can't give in to his lies about how we must give in to those temptations (remember 1 Corinthians 10:12-13)...And speaking of temptations...for all of my friends who joke around saying I'm going to get married or get a girlfriend while I'm here = P, yeah, I know you guys are just joking, but seriosuly, girls will always be a distraction to us guys...I'm not saying girls are alway a distraction, but if men view them as objects then...yeah...but here is a verse that helps keep me from viewing women as eye candy: "I made a convenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl." Job 31:1 I'm not saying that I am going to avoid all contact with girls here, but I am saying that I am going to view them as my sister in Christ = ) I just had a Bible Study Lesson over relationships, and this was included...

Anyway, I also pray for all of my other brothers here and for everybody we are reaching out to. Speaking of which, this afternoon I had the chance to spread the gospel to a friend of a friend who was from the U.S. Strangely enough, I got to evangelize to an American in Korea = )

This was his first time in Korea and so my friend asked me to give him a tour of the Imperial Palace. We talked about ourselves and our families and such, and then whenever he asked me about what I was doing in Korea, I took that opportunity to tell him about Christ. I found out he was a non-believer and he told me it was because he couldn't accept that fact that so many people don't believe in Christ and die everyday...I told him my view and why I was taking a year off from school to tell others about Christ...I don't know if I convinced him to become a believer, but I do know that he was very impressed with our hospitality and such and that at least I planted the seed of Christ...All I can do now is pray for him. I told him that I would pray for him and he was very grateful = )

Wow, I can write so much more about my experiences and what I've learned through my QT's but I need to get going (if anybody even read this far...= P ), but I will be praying for you all and PLEASE send me your prayer requests and any questions you have about what I am doing here or if you would like more pictures or such as that. Also, if you are ever in the Seoul area, please do not hesitate to call me 010-5625-5696

I pray that all of you are doing well!

GOD BLESS! Seriously = )
