MY LAST POST HERE!
In response to the comment: John Lennon!?! really? I'm back in the states right now (got back late the 28th), but I'm in OKC, OK visiting my sister, then will be going on a family vacation until next Monday.
So I finished out the year! (well, 10 months or so...)
I learned so much, not sure if I can express it all in 30 minutes, but lets see...
First, why I will never regret taking a year off from the Academy to join ENM:
First, God's Grace- I never realized the extent of God's Grace ( I mean, I'm sure I still do not completely understand the fullness of His love and all that He's forgiven me of, but I'm learning little by little bit everyday) Knowing more about God's love is allowing me to be a more loving, accepting, tolerating person because I realize how much I have done wrong to God, that no matter what other people do to me, it will NEVER compare with how much God has forgiven me. I live with a grateful, joyful attitude having this peace in my heart knowing that God loves me so much to discipline me and to guide me along the right path.
2nd, ME - I've learned SO MUCH about myself! I learned about my positives and negatives, and so I am able to see how I need to change in order to not only help me, but that I can help others. Witnessing to people in Korea and getting this Discipleship Training has helped me to learn so much about my fears and my hopes. I fear that I am not good enough sometimes, comparing myself to others and not being satisfied, but I've learned that God has made EACH ONE OF US UNIQUELY so that we cannot and should not compare ourselves to others. Instead, we should live the best life that we know how, according to the measure of Grace God has given us. And the more we use the talents God has given us, God will bless us that much more (whereas, if we don't live to our potential, God will take away the little that we have too). I need to live MY LIFE according to GOD'S WILL.
3 Family - I don't totally understand where my parents are coming from whenever they act the way that they do, but I'm understanding more and more about where they are coming from and why they are the way they are. I thought I knew a lot about the Korean culture before because I've lived with and amongst so many Koreans, but I realize I still have a lot more to learn. But this experience in Korea has allowed me to love my parents that much more because of all of the sacrifices they made to come to America. I knew beforehand some of the sacrifices they made, but I was able to spend some quality time with my relatives and learn more about my parents from them. Also since I'm better at Korean now, and old enough that they can tell me all of the good and bad stuff.
I wrote this so that whenever I head back to the Academy and ever regret taking a year off, I will know why I shouldn't regret. Just as during Plebe Summer all of the Plebes write down the 3 reasons why they wanted to come to the Naval Academy so that during the toughest times they can go back and help regain strength.
